One Man’s Trash…

You guys… you aren’t even gonna believe what happened yesterday afternoon. I’m serious, I’m worried that you literally will not believe me when I tell you this. LOL.. it’s too much of a coincidence!

Let’s just start by saying that garbage day around here is Wednesday, which means that most Wednesday mornings you are going to find a post with some ohmygodyouwontbelievewhatIfoundlastnight kind of stuff.

So if you recall, yesterday I posted all about my back patio and my plans for making it over. You may also recall the photo that I shared of the furniture I was hoping to buy from Lowe’s…

severson set redThis particular set is $298 (Cdn) and the you can also buy the pieces individually. The chairs are $60 each, the loveseat is $90 and I think the table is $80.

So yesterday afternoon I ventured out to Target with the little ones because YAY WE HAVE TARGET HERE NOW! I needed a few little things, and on the way home I passed a house that recently sold and seems to be doing a weekly purge in preparation of their move. It’s a busy little street, and I’m sure that not many appreciated my whole “slam on the brakes and pull over” move, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yup. I was going through someone’s trash once again. I swear, I am not a gross person and I honestly don’t go out anywhere with the intention of doing this! I know I’ve joked about cruising around on garbage night looking for treasure, but I’ve never actually done it!

(yet)

Anyway let’s cut to the chase, here… look what I found:

CHAIRS I KNOW!!! (See? I told you I’m Monica…)

I couldn’t believe it. And they were in pretty much perfect condition. They will need a fresh coat of paint but otherwise they are FINE. I loaded them up and brought them home where I can love them forever and ever!

Naturally with such an awesome score in my pocket I HAD to head out to Lowe’s and buy the loveseat this morning, plus some pillows to make it all gorgeous. I’m not posting pics of the “after” yet, though. It’s still not done and I have lots of little details to add, but I cannot believe I just saved myself over $120 by keeping my eyes on the road prize trash.

Hubby is away on a work trip this week, which as we all know is when I get my most major work done, so hopefully he will be pleasantly surprised when he’s come to see our awesome new patio space!

Anyone else doing any dumpster diving lately? I’m not sure why I’ve had such a good run… I guess a lot of people are doing their spring cleaning and just want to get rid of whatever they’re not using.

HOORAY for garbage day!

amazing!!!! i’ve never done garbage day in the US but when i lived in germany garbage day was AWESOME — they don’t have yard sales there (don’t know why) so they put perfectly good things on the curbs.

Okay, now I need to know what part of ‘just outside of Toronto’ you live in, because no one puts out good stuff in my neighbourhood (north-east suburb), and the bad stuff that would normally go within hours in Toronto sits for days, sometimes weeks. Except, oddly enough the ripped and stained leather couch we put out in the rain late one night which was gone when we got up the next morning. I hope it found a better home. :)

Lol I’m in a “north/west” suburb myself, and I think I’ve just been lucky lately. I’ve tried to figure out the reasons why certain spots are better than others, but I’m just not sure.
Keeping your eyes open is key!!
